Credit Card Processing

We recommend setting up your merchant account directly with Element Payment Services, Merchant Warehouse, and Mercury. Working directly with them will eliminate gateway fees and they'll be able to better support all your services (gateway and processing account) combined. MerchantOS also allows you to keep your current merchant services provider. Keeping your own provider is only possible with Element's payment gateway and there are some restrictions listed below.

  1. Element is the only open Gateway services provider integrated with MerchantOS that can allow you to keep your current processing relationship intact. Element's Express Processing Platform allows us to provide the highest possible level of security in our systems and allows you to more easily meet PCI compliance regulations.
  2. Gateway fees are competitively priced (similar to those of Authorize.net. Call us at 866-554-2453 for more information). When using Element as your full service payment processor, these fees are waived.
  3. Element's gateway is compatible with most major platforms; some exceptions exist. Contact MerchantOS support for details.
  4. You'll need to use an encrypting card reader provided by Element Payment Services. The card reader retails for $105 plus shipping. With this device, you'll be able to accept all common credit cards. Element is currently running a promotion where you can receive one free device per merchant location when using Element as your full service payment processor.

You're always welcome to use non-integrated processing with MerchantOS and your external terminal. Just indicate the customer has paid by credit card, run their card with your terminal, and complete the sale in MerchantOS.

PIN-based processing for check/debit cards is available through Element (see picture) and Mercury.

Contact the MerchantOS Support team for help hooking your Element, Merchant Warehouse, or Mercury payment gateway to MerchantOS.

Compatible Processors

All of our partner processors price their services using interchange plus pricing. Interchange plus is currently the most fair pricing method available and is generally less expensive than other pricing models (such as three tiered pricing). Merchants may contact Element for a complimentary statement analysis and receive a quote for customized pricing. Element is often able to offer a lower rate based on this analysis which factors in your monthly processing volume and average ticket amount.

Mercury Payment Systems supports Canadian merchants and Global Payments is the Authorized Dealer for Element Payment Services in Canada.

PCI Compliance

MerchantOS does not handle cardholder data which we can decrypt. We are simply a neutral carrier of encrypted cardholder data much like your internet service provider is a neutral carrier. Because of this, our systems are out of scope. We have self-assessed our systems using guidance provided by the PCI council according to self assessment questionnaire A (SAQ A).

The gateways which enable us to remain out of scope are PCI certified. You may need the following information regarding our compatible gateways to certify your own business.
