Remove Sales Tax

First, visit our page on Tax Setup and set up either a Sales Tax or a Tax Class for "exempt" at 0%.

  • Tax Class: If you have items within your local Sales Tax that need to be exempt (example: groceries or other tax-exempt items)
  • Sales Tax: If you need to completely ignore tax on one or more items (example: for a customer who lives in a state with no sales tax)

Removing Tax from an Item

Go to the Item's Details page and change the Tax Class dropdown to "exempt". This item will still show up under your Sales Tax, but at a rate of 0% taxable.

Removing Tax from a Customer

Go to the Customer's Details page, and change the Sales Tax dropdown to "exempt". This customer will never be taxed, and their items will be kept in a separate total from your normal Sales Tax (in Reports).

Removing Tax from an Item within a Transaction

Next to the item whose tax you wish to remove, click the Pencil Button, then change the Tax Class dropdown to "exempt" and click Save.

Removing Tax from an entire Transaction

After all items are rung up, click the Tax button on the right hand side, change the Tax dropdown to "exempt" and click Save.
