As a new member of MerchantOS my first project has been to integrate MailChimp as a MerchantOS Addon. If you haven’t heard of MailChimp,
MailChimp, a leading do-it-yourself marketing service, provides tools to over 200,000 small businesses, design agencies, non-profits, restaurants, and e-Commerce organizations worldwide.
As a web developer I see them as a great web service with a powerful API. They also offer a helpful API wrapper that can get any PHP project off the ground quickly. So quickly that our service with MailChimp should be available early in 2010.
Our integration revolves around populating the primary unit of storage MailChimp offers, the member list. We will allow our merchants to sync their customer list to a member list in MailChimp. Accordingly, if a merchant edits a customer’s information in her customer database, that change is reflected in the MailChimp list auto-magically. This means you’ll be able to send emails to your customers in mass or send an email on your customers birthday automatically (for example).

How possible would it be to send different newsletters based off of patronage? For instance, I may send a larger percent off coupon to someone who’s spent 1k dollars opposed to someone who’s spent 500.
And if I’m going to dream…dream big.
What if they system could track the coupon (be it dollars or percent) and track who that offer went to?
That way I could set an expire date on in the system and that would ensure a “call to action.”
The segmentation is something we could do. We put a couple fields for segmentation in there to start (like zip code and DOB). Once people start using the integration after it’s released we’ll take feedback and incorporate it in.
Wow, this would be great! We currently use mail chimp and have to manually reenter customers from Mos into mail chimp. With a working ecom and newsletter integration, MOS becomes a perfect do all solution!
Mailchimp is very close to being released. Patrick has been working very hard on it and we’re just doing some final tests and refinement to get it out.

Hello Justin and Ivan,
I was just on MailChimp’s website and they don’t list you as and integration. Is this offering still active?

Hey Wake,
Thank you for pointing this out. Our integration is still standing with MailChimp; I have no idea why it wouldn’t be listed on their Integrations Directory, but we’ll get that sorted out.
Thanks again!
